About it
This is Telecom Italia’s TV service via ADSL. The telephone cable and the performance of broadband connections ensure home television direct access to an extensive offer of 53 channels, live and on-demand content, such as Movies, Sports, News and Music, and also the opportunity of entering Internet directly from the TV set.
Alice Home TV’s Movie section yearly offers approx. 2,500 titles produced by leading national and international majors. 500 of these movies are monthly available on-demand and, about 200 of the latter, numbering both films and TV serials, are monthly updated. Besides the agreement with Sky, Telecom Italia has also entered into agreements with various film production companies: Paramount Pictures, Warner Bros, BIM, Lucky Red, Mediafilm, Mikado, Rai Cinema, 20th Century Fox and Sony Pictures International.
The service is currently available in 310 Italian cities (in all leading provincial capitals and in many other municipalities).
How it works
To use Alice Home TV you just need an ADSL “Alice 20 Mega” connection and a kit including a decoder to be linked to the television set and an ADSL Wi-Fi modem. A remote control and a friendly-use graphic interface ad hoc created for the IPTV service make it possible to access Alice Home TV’s thematic channels (Movie, Sports, Alice Today, Music, News and TV) and to pay for the video contents available on demand. An infrared keyboard makes is also possible to access the web through the TV set.
The Target
The Alice Home TV service is targeted at consumer customers who seek a single subscription that provides both access to a broad selection of live and on-demand content and advantages relating to telephony and the Internet.
The service is in fact proposed in triple-play packets comprising: 20 Mega connectivity without limits, an additional telephone number enabled for Telecom Italia’s VoIP services (per call bandwidth consumption/flat rate graded according to the purchased packet), the IPTV service including a wide range of contents, all devices required to configure the service and home installation.
Innovative Technology
A new platform is being tested that will provide innovative services guaranteeing a richer interactive experience and further improvement of Alice Home TV’s audio and video quality.
To be precise, the following functions will be gradually introduced:
• Video-streaming of HDTV content;
• Free To Air contents viewed with the integrated Digital Terrestrial TV decoder;
• Local video recording with Set Top Box SDTV and HDTV contents;
• Pause while viewing broadcast content to continue some other time (Time Shifted TV);
• Electronic Programme Guide (EPG) for all live channels either broadcast (both free and pay) or received through the Integrated Digital Terrestrial Decoder;
• Parental control to ensure secure access to available contents;
• Search engine for live and on-demand contents
